Have you ever heard of “shadow work?” I ran from my shadow “work” for years in hopes of avoiding not-fun feelings like sadness, fear, worry etc. In December, I read Debbie Ford’s Dark Side of the Light Chasers epic book about embracing all parts of ourselves. I can’t recommend this book enough! HINT: Get it today:)

What was going on for me was when I desired something really big such as filling a coaching program with ideal clients, I would ask God/Source/Universe for it but then I would have a really heavy feeling in my heart which would obviously cancel out the request and receptivity of the desire.

I would try to cover up the heavy heart with affirmations, meditation and talking to my mentor and high vibration colleagues about it but this heavy feeling loomed and chased me around.

Can you relate?

Digging deeper, I explored what my heavy heart/sadness was trying to share with me and that’s when the shadow was revealed.

Lesson learned is that you can’t cover up your feelings with PINK paint! Yes, emotional sobriety is essential and yes, feeling your feelings in a healthy way for a duration of time is a MUST in order to move beyond and into the LIGHT.

BUT first you have to HEAR what the shadow is saying. In my case, and perhaps in yours my shadow side is a scared lonely little girl with real concerns and feelings such as (note: I know this is NOT fun to read but just breathe with me and we will move through it:)

I’m not good enough.
I don’t deserve it.
You’re not worth it.
You are unloved.
God/Love/Source doesn’t love you.
You can’t do it.
You’ll never make it.
There’s not enough money or time.
You are alone.
What were you thinking?
Who do you think you are?

Yikes! I know it’s NOT pretty. But I do know that if your shadow side/subconscious mind is running around unconsiously believing the above NO WONDER your life is less than ideal.

Your coaching assignment:

Turn the LIGHTS on your shadow and bring it into the light.

Answer these questions:

1. What part of you are you/have you disowned?

2. Identify in your body where you feel heaviness, sadness, fear, anxiety, doubt, worry, stress etc?

3. Ask that body part to speak freely. LISTEN to that body part by writing down what you hear it expressing. Do not sensor, get it all out.

4. Ask this part of you how old it is. Knowing that you are dealing with a 6 year old scared little girl will be very helpful.

5. Simply be with this aspect of yourself don’t try to fix it. Just simply breathe and be with her. Love her just as she is. Have compassion for her. Hold her in the light.

6. Read Debbie Ford’s The Dark Side of the Light Chasers book for more meditations and inner work.

7. The next time you feel the heaviness of your shadow moving through your body and mind, repeat the above.

Embracing the wounded parts of yourself is the most FREEING work you could ever do. On the other side of those icky feelings is love unimaginable, bliss, joy and freedom.

I hope this helps you on your journey. In my coaching programs, I am doing more of this work to help my clients become more of themselves. Becoming all of YOU allows you to get out of your own way in order to be a channel of light which then richly rewards you with every single one of your heart’s desires.
